Historical Context
Heraclius Constantine ruled after the death of his father with his half-brother Heraklonas and his widowed stepmother Martina as empress, but died himself only a couple of month later of tuberculosis; this untimely death raised suspicions among his supporters what actually led to deposition, mutilation and banishment of Martina and her son.
